Death Zine is the second zine made with Momongabox for The Tokyo Art Book Fair 2013, this time it was about death. Each member chose a related topic and wrote an illustrated article. Mine was about “The Fantasy Coffins of Kane Kwei, Ghana”, a tradition specific to the country where coffins are made into the shape of objects representing the life of the person who passed away.
I collaborated closely with Eric Adjetey Anang, the artist/coffin maker, grandson of the originator of fantasy coffins in Ghana, to narrate the story and illustrate it with water color pencil illustrations.
The zine was very popular and quickly sold out. We have re-released it in 2015 with an updated cover and binding.
